Joe Kubert |
Our Army at War v1 #155, 1965 - A general's son joins up with Easy Company, eager to prove himself without promotion or recognition. In a separate tale, Enemy Ace lives with the guilt of downing an unarmed plane. Both are ably drawn and composed by Joe Kubert, whose gritty style is perfect for the genre. The second tale in particular, displaying several aerial dogfights, is masterfully laid out. Kubert's opening splash is stunning, making up for his poorly foreshortened cover. "Fokker Fury" was later reprinted in Star Spangled War Stories #153 and again (inexplicably) in SSWS #157. Other artists in this silver age comic include Morris Waldinger. This is 92 of 236 Our Army at War issues by Kubert.
