Diary Secrets v1 #20, 1953 - While a pretty coed weeps at her desk, her diary entry reveals her boyfriend's reaction to an unwanted pregnancy. Matt Baker captures her agonized state with great sensitivity. His softened brushwork resides within a carefully planned layout. Note how the artist creates a visual path, from pennant to girl's face, down her right arm and back across, pointing to both her diary and her lover's photo. Included in this issue are "My Stand-In for Love" (originally titled "Love Came Second") and "The Face of an Angel" (originally "Too Ugly to Love"), both Joe Kubert reprints from Hollywood Confessions #1. Other artists in this golden age romance comic include Max Elkan.
