Heroes for Hope #1 - John Byrne, Bernie Wrightson, Jeff Jones, Frank Miller, Jim Starlin art, non-attributed Al Williamson, Walt Simonson art

Heroes for Hope starring the X-men v1 #1, 1985 - An unseen foe delves into the psyches of individual X-men, eventually bringing them together to confront the widespread famine in Africa. The sales of this one-shot issue are donated to the relief effort, and boasts some of the finest talents in the comic industry. Some contributions are more satisfying than others, with especially fine work by Bernie Wrightson and Jeff Jones (see interior page below). John Byrne and Terry Austin, who first popularized the new X-men, also deliver four magnificent pages. Sadly, the drawings of Frank Miller, Jim Starlin, Al Williamson and Walt Simonson fall below expectations. That said, there's still much to be admired for all the writers and artists contributing their time to this worthy cause. Other artists in this issue include Arthur Adams, John Romita Jr., Al Gordon, John Buscema, Klaus Janson, Brent Anderson, Joe Sinnott, Dan Green, Jon Muth, Charles Vess, Tom Palmer, Richard Corben, Gray Morrow, Mike Kaluta, Al Milgrom, Brian Bolland, Craig Russell, John Bolton, Steve Rude, Carl Potts, Herb Trimpe, Sal Buscema, Paul Gulacy, Bob Layton, Alan Weiss, Joe Rubenstein, Jackson Guice and Steve Leialoha.
