Bernie Wrightson profile

Bernie Wrightson (1948-2017) - Born in Maryland, Wrightson was a largely self-taught artist, copying illustrations from comics and a variety of other sources. His first published piece was a short story that appeared in House of Mystery #179, which led to regular jobs on DC's mystery titles. In House of Secrets #92, he co-created the Swamp Thing along with Len Wein. Wrightson's style was bold, ominous and imposing. His fine brushwork was often accompanied by large swaths of black shapes and shadows and often emphasized stark contrasts. Although he transitioned into superhero books in the 1980s, his work for horror comics a decade before would define his legacy. Read more on Wikipedia.
