Jeff Jones (1944-2011) - Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Jones began his professional comics career some of the smaller publishers. His first effort appeared in Creepy #16 for Warren publishing. Commissions from King Comics, Charlton and Gold Key soon followed. His artwork, although primitive at first, evolved into a lush painterly style. The high level of draftsmanship drew comparisons to Frank Frazetta. The success of his work steered him toward more lucrative projects, such as painting paperback book covers. His comic book output is spare, but highly influential. His stories for Warren's Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella magazines are among his most memorable works. Interestingly, Jones transitioned into a woman later in life, renaming herself Jeffrey Catherine Jones. Read more on Wikipedia.
