All-American Comics #16 - 1st Green Lantern

All-American Comics #16
All-American Comics v1 #16, 1940 - A meteor lands in remote China, cracking open and revealing a mysterious green flame. It tells the natives its intentions, including endowing great power in the future. The meteorite's metals are forged into a lamp at first, then later into a lantern. Decades later, engineer Alan Scott survives a deadly sabotage due to the lantern's proximity. In the aftermath, he fashions a ring from it that gives him strange new powers. Vowing to fight evil as the Green Lantern, he begins as a regular feature on the series. Due to his popularity, his self-titled series debuts a year later. This convoluted Bill Finger story was drawn by Martin Nodell. Other artists in this issue also include Stan Asch.
