Marvels v1 #4, 1994 - In the last chapter of this landmark series, the age of Marvel super-heroes continues into the 1970s and their accompanying storylines. Longtime comic book fans will recognize scenes from the Avengers' Kree-Skrull war and the Black Widow's trial, respectively. Kurt Busiek's brilliant finale, however, hones in on events in Amazing Spider-Man #121 and #122. In investigating the circumstances of Captain Stacy's death, journalist Phil Sheldon inadvertently witnesses a pivotal battle between Spidey and the Green Goblin. Alex Ross' finest cover on the series only suggests the tragedy to come. As usual, his interiors set an incredibly high standard for painted comics.- - - - - - - - -
