Creepy v1 #9, 1966 - Frank Frazetta's hero fends off bat-like aliens on his swirling cover design. Wally Wood and Dan Adkins draws the tale of an overworked comic book artist who enters his fictional worlds. Their collaboration is seamless and competent (this was later reprinted in Eerie v3 #131). A mugger changes places with a time traveling sorcerer in Alex Toth's story. Thickly rendered, the artwork is succinct and purposefully designed. Lastly, Steve Ditko visualizes an out-of-body experiment gone awry. Like most of his magazine works, the artist uses gray tones and washes for enhancement. Ditko's layouts and sequences, however, are merely adequate. This story was later reprinted in Eerie v3 #22 and #135. Fun fact: Berni Wrightson has a small fan illustration on the letters page. Other artists in this bronze age magazine include Gray Morrow, Roy Krenkel, Reed Crandall and Jay Taycee.
