Magnus Robot Fighter #4 - Russ Manning art

Magnus Robot Fighter #4
Magnus Robot Fighter v1 #4, 1964 - After gainging the capacity to think, a renegade robot called T1 begins blowing up the world's underwater food processors. With numerous oceanic scenes, Russ Manning populates the panels with a variety of fish, plants and corals. While exotic, his best work occurs when depicting robots and complex machinery. The massive explosion on page 14 (see interior page below) is a highlight of the story, made more dramatic by the carefully planned perspective. The shorter Aliens tale is of similar quality, ending with a richly textured view of outer space. On the back cover, Manning's pin-up page of Magnus and Leeja is an astonishing work of design and draftsmanship. This is 4 of 21 Magnus Robot Fighter issues by Manning. /// Manning gallery
