Our Army at War #238 - Joe Kubert art & cover

Joe Kubert
Our Army at War v1 #238 featuring Sgt. Rock, 1971 - Morbidly obese, can an oversized GI named "Heavy" do his part in Easy Company? Every now and then, an oddball character appears on this series for variety's sake. The opening splash uses a rotund silhouette to frame the introductory panels. On Joe Kubert's cover, Heavy fills the entire layout while fending off a Nazi army. Though still a typical war story with plenty of action, Kubert's illustrations add a touch of humor and empathy. This story was later reprinted in DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #18. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Sam Glanzman. This is 173 of 236 Our Army at War issues by Kubert.
