Tarzan #219 - Joe Kubert art & cover

Joe Kubert
Tarzan of the Apes v1 #219, 1972Joe Kubert's adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Return of Tarzan begins. Traveling to France, the ape-man tries to find Jane before her impending marriage. It's somewhat refreshing to see the character in a more civilized, urban setting. The title spread pictures Tarzan surrounded by thugs, but by no means helpless. While there are flashbacks to the jungle, Kubert mostly fills the pages with classy Parisian backgrounds and interiors. Curiously, his cover is unrelated to the interiors. This bronze age story was later reprinted in Limited Collectors' Edition #C-29. This is 13 of 44 Tarzan issues by Kubert.
