True Love Pictorial v1 #2, 1953 - Moving to her husband’s hometown, a new bride finds the whole town disapproving of their marriage.
Matt Baker opens with an idyllic beach scene, introducing the two main characters. As the story progresses, the artwork turns darker as a town-wide disaster looms. As usual, narration takes up much of the space on nearly every page. Nonetheless, Baker includes plenty of rich detail and textural effects. His artwork is sound and dependably engaging. The artist’s corresponding cover is equally good, depicting the young newlywed just as her husband enters. Why she’s wearing a flamenco-style dress is curious, but admittedly it adds more sophistication to the scene. This is 1 of 10
