Pictorial Romances v1 #20, 1953 - Filled with both new material, this 100 page giant contains a prime Matt Baker story. A teenage girl is sent to her aunt's boarding house, where she's groomed to be an "escort" for male customers. In typical fashion, the artist's women are beautifully drawn and naturalistic. The pacing, sequencing and layouts also reveal a highly skillful storyteller. Baker also draws the accusatory cover, but his lengthy romance tale is more representative of his talents. Other artists in this golden age comic include Ric Estrada and Bernard Sachs. NOTE: copies may exist where this cover was combined with previously published St. John romance comics instead of the contents below. This is 17 of 21 Pictorial Romances issues by Baker.
