Star Spangled War Stories v1 #172 featuring the Unknown Soldier, 1973 - In
Walt Simonson's brief tale, the final days of the Alamo are recounted, including a key decision that could have changed history. At first glance, the story art adequate portrays the pre-statehood era of Texas. Under closer inspection, however, certain panels falter and suggest a lack of effort (page 2 panel 5 for example). Overall, Simonson's layouts are fairly standard and he retains his unusually distinctive linework.
Joe Kubert's cover is better, revealing a trio of Nazi planes within the torn opening of the title character's parachute. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Jack Sparling. This is 2 of 3
