Authentic Police Cases v1 #10, 1950 - After illustrating several covers,
Matt Baker begins doing some of the interior stories as well. An inordinate amount of narration and dialogue fills the panels, leaving little room for images. Still, Baker does his best. His opening splash page to "Midwest Cops Smash the Crimson Gang" is well designed, using a clever triangular layout (see interior page below). The remaining pages are sufficient but not extraordinary. This story was later reprinted in
Authentic Police Cases #35. His second story is a reprint from
Northwest Mounties #3. The issue's highlight is clearly Baker's arresting cover. A deadly confrontation nears while a woman in red (the focal point) struggles from her captor. Other artists in this golden age crime comic include Ralph Lane. This is 5 of 28
Authentic Police Cases issues by
Baker.
