Tarzan of the Apes #174 - Russ Manning art

Tarzan of the Apes v1 #174, 1968 - Captured by a tribe of large, brutish women, Tarzan is equally surprised by their foes: hundreds of diminutive warriors. The artwork by Russ Manning is simply superb. The open skies and relatively calm of the first few pages eventually gives way to more chaotic scenes. Especially impressive is Manning's ability to maintain details on panels with multiple tiny figures (see interior page below). This issue begins to adapt Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan and the Ant Men. This is number 129 of 132 Tarzan issues with Manning art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts or more Manning or Tarzan issues. See also this blog's Russ Manning checklist.
