Matt Baker, Joe Kubert
Pictorial Confessions v1 #3, 1949 - Both Matt Baker and Joe Kubert contribute superbly drawn panels on this segmented cover design. Kubert's interior tale tells of a girl fearful of her boyfriend's racing career. The artwork is loose and kinetic, reflecting the dangers of the sport. Baker's two stories tell of, respectively, the ambitions of a pretty sales clerk and two sisters with contrasting personalities. Precisely drawn and laid out, Baker's work is nonetheless attractive and approachable. All three tales appeared later in other romance titles. "They Caught Me Cheating At Love" was later reprinted in Pictorial Romances #11 and Pictorial Romances #17, "The Heart's Trophy" in Pictorial Romances #17 and "I Played At Love" in Teen-Age Romances #15 and Pictorial Romances #17. This is number 3 of 3 Pictorial Confessions issues with Baker art and/or covers and number 1 of 1 Pictorial Confessions issues with Kubert art and/or covers.
