Our Army at War #148 - Joe Kubert art & cover

Joe Kubert
Our Army at War v1 #148, 1964 - On behalf of a dying general, Sgt. Rock wears his stars in combat and leads a platoon to hold the front line. In another tale, a pair of GI frogmen land miles from water but use their smarts to outwit the enemy. Both are capably drawn by Joe Kubert, who uses varied grids to avoid monotony. Atypically, he opens the first story with side-by-side splashes sharing the same title text. Kubert's cover, part of a series mimicking a book, seems static compared to the interiors. "Book Two Generals Don't Die! Generals Are Sergeants with Stars" was later reprinted in >Sgt. Rock Special #4Other artists in this issue include Sheldon Moldoff. This is 85 of 236 Our Army at War issues by Kubert.
