Dark Horse Presents #54 |
Dark Horse Presents v1 #54, 1991 - After disposing of two hit men, Marv gets closer to why he was framed for a prostitute's murder. Frank Miller begins Sin City episode five with two back-to-back splashes of a cowgirl stripper. The illustrations has a beautiful abstract quality to them, reminiscent of Wassily Kandisky. The remaining pages are more typically violent, accentuated by the artist's harsh lighting and contrasts. This episode was later reprinted in the Sin City trade paperback. Marking their first appearance are the Next Men, a group of young people suddenly endowed with super abilities. While less jarring and innovative, John Byrne's artwork on this origin story is no less well drawn. This issue also includes artwork by Gray Morrow. This is 1 of 4 Dark Horse Presents issues by Byrne and 4 of 13 Dark Horse Presents issues by Miller. /// key 1st appearance, 1st origin Next Men
