Star Spangled War Stories #71 - Joe Kubert art & cover

Joe Kubert
Star Spangled War Stories v1 #71, 1958 - In the back-up tale, a former Nazi submarine captain leads a salvage team to raise a sunken ship from his exploits. Unusually, the story title is moved to the end, allowing Joe Kubert's superlative artwork to set the stage and the context. The captain's recollection from the past is conveyed by open panels, which also enhance the aesthetics. This story was later reprinted in Weird War Tales #1. Other artists in this golden age comic include Russ Heath. This is 18 of 96 Star Spangled War issues by Kubert.
