Weird War Tales v1 #1, 1971 - Comprised of war stories, this first issue features stories from previous decades. Eventually, thos title would produce its own original material. For this inaugural issue, Joe Kubert provides a jarring new cover. Variations of a skeletal soldier would be used frequently throughout the run. Especially eerie is Kubert's masthead, which uses corpses to fill some of the interior letters. Inside, his framing pages are outstanding, combining the more frightening elements of this of the war and horror genres (see interior page below).
