Marvel Spotlight v2 #5 on Dragon Lord, 1979 - A Japanese engineer takes up the mantle of his forebears, using sorcery against a newly emerged sea monster. In this first appearance of
Dragon Lord,
Steve Ditko appears to re-purpose his creature design from his 1960s
Gorgo issues. His drawing style is evident throughout the pages, but lacks the detail of earlier works. Ditko does best on the larger, more spacious panels (see interior page below), especially the battle between two behemoths on page 23.
Frank Miller's cover exceeds the aesthetic of the interiors. His masterful use of light and shade results in one of the best bronze age works. Written by Marv Wolfman, this is 2 of 5
