Do You Believe in Nightmares #1 - Steve Ditko art & cover + 1st issue

Steve Ditko
Do You Believe in Nightmares v1 #1, 1957 - Beginning with his striking cover, Steve Ditko is responsible for nearly all the contents of this one-shot issue. Ranging from three to seven pages long, these science fiction tales offer a wide variety of scenarios with nightmares as the common theme. Most of the artwork employs heavy shadows to evoke darkness and foreboding. The one exception, "Strange Silence", is minimally drawn to reinforce the title and plot. My own favorite is "You Can Make Me Fly", a tale of a scientist forced to help his escaped convict brother. On the first panel, Ditko cleverly introduces the characters in a glass beaker's reflection. With some variation, the artist's trademark style is recognizable throughout. This issue also includes cover artwork by Dick Ayers. This is 1 of 1 Do You Believe in Nightmares issues by Ditko. /// key 1st issue
