Detective Comics v1 #441, 1974 - Manhunter and Christine St. Claire track down down the conspirators to a decrepit old church in Istanbul, Turkey.
Walt Simonson does his best work yet on the series, taking advantage of the unusual and exotic setting. The architecture plays a huge part in the storytelling, often blending with the panels (page 3) or establishing scale (pages 1, 6). The most memorable sequence is a page comprised of small panels: Manhunter becomes overwhelmed by attackers while a young tourist looks on in disbelief (page 7). Smartly written and divinely drawn, this short story received industry accolades at the time of publication. This story was later reprinted in
Manhunter #1 and
Manhunter Special Edition #1. This super spectacular also contains an
Alex Toth tale (Eclipso) from
