Haunted v1 #4, 1972 -
Steve Ditko's art works in tandem with the typography to make the cover busier and more compelling. The reader is brought into the car's moment of impact, while title breaks up in the foreground. In "Driven To Destruction", the story opens with a sequence of smaller panels that slowly build up tension. Henry and Evelyn Hoyt are a married couple that constantly bicker, leading one to take violent action. Ditko perfectly captures their mutual hatred, manifested mostly by their facial expressions (see interior page below). For the ending, the artist uses a free-floating montage of viewpoints not often seen in his work. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Pat Boyette and Nicholas Alascia. This is 4 of 23
