House of Mystery v1 #188, 1970 - Opening a red door off a foggy London street, a man is instantly transported to an insane asylum during the middle ages. Like much of his early work,
Bernie Wrightson shows much promise with his feathery brushwork and cross-hatching. Barnabas, the master of Bedlam, is introduced on page 4 against a backdrop of meticulous shadows and stonework. Some of the more overworked panels are offset by the artist's enthusiasm. This story was later reprinted in
Masterworks Series of Great Comic Book Artists #3.
Neal Adams' ritualistic cover is unrelated but effectively draws in readers. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Tony Dezuniga. This is 14 of 26
