Our Army at War #91 - Joe Kubert art

Our Army at War #91
Our Army at War v1 #91, 1960Joe Kubert fills the issue with three gritty Sgt. Rock tales. In “No Answer from Sarge”, a soldier fights against his instincts to flee from combat. “Old Soldiers Never Run” features a old GI that fights with heart and ferocity despite his age. Perhaps most unusual is “The Silent Piper”, the story of a Scottish bagpipe player that accompanies the unit on a daring attack. All three Kubert works are drawn with gusto, despite the varied page lengths. His layouts are varied, aided by well-crafted opening splashes. The first story was later reprinted in Star Spangled War Stories #162, the second in Our Army at War #247 and the third in Our Army at War #159. Other artists in this silver age comic include Curt Swan. Cover by Jerry Grandenetti. This is 31 of 236 Our Army at War issues by Kubert.
