Creepy #77 - Bernie Wrightson, Alex Toth art

Creepy #77
Creepy v1 #77, 1976 - Unlike other issues, Bernie Wrightson's frontispiece appears in full color. His burdensome Santa Claus is terrific, but it's interior tale that stands out. "Clarice" tells of a tragedy during a winter storm in the mountains. Wrightson's superb drawings match Bruce Jones' poetic verse flawlessly (this story was later reprinted in Berni Wrightson Master of the Macabre #2 and Creepy #113). Alex Toth chronicles a pilot's strange encounter of a UFO during the 1920s. Thoughtfully laid out (see interior page below), the story is nicely representative of his work during the bronze age. Other artists in this bronze age magazine include Richard Corben and John Severin. This is 13 of 19 Creepy issues by Wrightson and 7 of 15 Creepy issues by Toth. /// Wrightson gallery
