Shock Suspenstories v1 #4, 1952 -
Wally Wood's cover captures the moment of impact when a car strikes a pedestrian. The driver's agonized face and the woman's ghostly reflection add to this disturbing scene. Wood's coinciding story tells of a man unjustly accused of a hit-and-run. Driven by details, the artwork in many scenes is heavy and confining (see interior page below). Additional emphasis on facial expressions creates a gritty realism not often seen in comics. Other artists in this golden age comic include Jack Davis, Jack Kamen and Joe Orlando. This is 3 of 14
