Joe Kubert |
Tarzan of the Apes v1 #213, 1972 -
Joe Kubert begins with a terrific cover, appropriately focused on the young ape of the title story. The facial expression and rendering of the Balu is skillful, although I wished there was as much detail on the background as there is in the foreground. The story chronicles Tarzan's acceptance into the great apes community, and Kubert's drawings enhance the experience. Highlights include the two-page panel spread at the beginning foretelling the danger to come and the silent panels of Tarzan's freefall on page 9. This story was later reprinted in
Tarzan #252 and #253. Beyond the Farthest Star continues its adaptation in this bronze age comic with art by Dan Green. This is 7 of 44
Tarzan issues by
Kubert.
