Tarzan #213 - Joe Kubert art & cover

Tarzan v1 #213 dc comic book cover art by Joe Kubert
Joe Kubert
Tarzan of the Apes v1 #213, 1972 - Joe Kubert begins with a terrific cover, appropriately focused on the young ape of the title story. The facial expression and rendering of the Balu is skillful, although I wished there was as much detail on the background as there is in the foreground. The story chronicles Tarzan's acceptance into the great apes community, and Kubert's drawings enhance the experience. Highlights include the two-page panel spread at the beginning foretelling the danger to come and the silent panels of Tarzan's freefall on page 9. Beyond the Farthest Star continues its adaptation as a secondary feature with art by Dan Green. This is number 7 of 43 Tarzan issues with Kubert art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts or more Kubert or Tarzan issues. See also this blog's Joe Kubert checklist.
