Tarzan of the Apes #173 - Russ Manning art

Tarzan of the Apes v1 #173, 1967 - WIth the help of natives and Gorilla-men, Tarzan helps Queen La recapture her Kingdom of Opar. With this accomplished, the ape-man proceeds to search for his look-alike impersonator. Large panels seem more numerous in this Russ Manning effort, resulting in more dynamic scenes. The Waziri tribe's attack on an armed camp (page 8) and the confrontation between the two Tarzans (page 20) are but two examples. This issue adapts the Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan and the Golden Lion. This is number 128 of 132 Tarzan issues with Manning art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts or more Manning or Tarzan issues. See also this blog's Russ Manning checklist.
