Tarzan of the Apes #164 - Russ Manning art

Tarzan of the Apes v1 #164, 1967 - In this conclusion of Tarzan the Untamed, Tarzan searches for companions downed in an airplane crash. This leads to a hidden civilization of brutish but intelligent tamers of wild lions. Fanged and pointy-eared, the residents look a tad silly compared to Russ Manning's previous character designs. That aside, the artist deftly ilustrates strangely exotic trees, animals and architecture. Like previous issues, this is a partial adaptation of an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel. This is number 124 of 132 Tarzan issues with Manning art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts or more Manning or Tarzan issues. See also this blog's Russ Manning checklist.
