Star Spangled War Stories v1 #144 featuring Enemy Ace, 1969 - Dressed in skeletal garb, a French squadron seems to appear and disappear, wreaking havoc on Von Hammer's pilots. Neal Adams and Joe Kubert combining their talents for the first time on this DC war story. A two-page panel features Enemy Ace upside down, his cockpit boldly framing an explosion in the distance. Adams' style emerges on a handful of pages and panels, but Kubert's inks dominate throughout the book. Even the layouts and sequences seem heavily influenced by the older artist. That aside, the results are both exciting and aesthetically pleasing. Other artists in this silver age comic include John Costanza.
