Werewolf By Night v1 #16, 1974 - While waiting for an airline connection in Paris, Jack Russell and Topaz run afoul of a hunchbacked hijacker. In this clear homage to Victor Hugo's novel, a kidnapping and subsequent chase leads to the Cathedral de Notre Dame.
Mike Ploog's cover layout is mediocre, hampered further by John Romita's alterations. Inside, the artwork is generally better. Certain individual panels shine, including Topaz's darkened figure on page 14 panel 3 and the werewolf's precipitous fall on page 26 panel 1. With his final issue, Ploog recaptures some of the verve of his earlier works. This is 12 of 12
