| Detective Comics #487 |
Detective Comics v1 #487, 1980 - A would-be author is mistakenly targeted by the League of Assassins, prompting the Batman to protect him at any cost. Don Newton opens with a dramatic splash page (see interior page below) that belies varies the story's whimsical aspects. His varying page layouts and Dan Adkin's inks add greater interest to his already superlative pencils. This story was later reprinted in Tales of the Batman: Don Newton #1. In another tale, Steve Ditko introduces the Odd Man, a crimefighting hero wearing a patchwork suit. While the artwork borders on mediocre, the varying patterns and linework are visually interesting. Other artists in this issue include Dave Hunt and Dick Giordano. Cover by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez.
