Captain America v1 #117, 1969 - Banished to the tropics by the Red Skull, a disguised Steve Rogers teams up with an American tourist against the island's oppressors, the Exiles. He convinces Sam Wilson to become a symbol for freedom for the villagers. The Falcon makes his first appearance in the final panels of the story. Marvel would subsequently make this hero a recurring character on the series, even sharing the masthead for a significant number of issues. Only the second Marvel African-American hero, this story was written by Stan Lee and drawn by Gene Colan and Joe Sinnott. Cover by Colan.
