Alpha Flight v1 #21, 1985 - Gilded Lily's origin, connected to the alchemist Diablo, is revealed in stark detail. Bound and powerless, can Aurora escape before she turns her into a gold statue? John Byrne turns in a typically splendid job, starting with not one, but two full page splashes. The inking lacks a tad more detail than I'd like, but the layouts more than make up for it. Byrne's cover features some of the story's main players, but the scene doesn't actually occur inside. Note how the artist signs his name in smoke on the left. This is 21 of 30 Alpha Flight issues by Byrne.
