Our Army at War v1 #168 featuring Sgt. Rock, 1966 - Just out of range to be recognized, an obscure GI appears out of nowhere to help Sgt. Rock on several occasions. He seems to be a prototype of the bronze age
Unknown Soldier introduced years later, but most collectors regard this as his first appearance.
Joe Kubert's action-packed cover matches the intensity of his story art. Page 8 stands out for its forceful depiction of hand-to-hand combat between Sgt. Rock and a determined Nazi soldier. This Robert Kanigher story was later reprinted in
Star Spangled War Stories #157. This silver age issue also includes artwork by Jack Abel. This is 105 of 236
