Detective Comics #501 |
Detective Comics v1 #501, 1981 - Receiving mysterious telegrams, Alfred and Lucius depart for Paris with their friend the Batman not far behind. One of them is the suspected murderer of Mademoiselle Marie, hero of the French Resistance in WWII. Don Newton's shadowy drawings seem perfectly suited given the number of nighttime scenes. He employs dramatic lighting often yet appropriately. Newton's cityscape views of Gotham (page 5) and Paris (page 8) are similarly drawn and equally effective. This story was later reprinted in Tales of the Batman: Gerry Conway #1. Cover by by Jim Aparo. This is 20 of 39
Detective Comics issues by Newton.
