Tarzan v1 #235, 1975 - Searching for a rare medicinal herb, Tarzan and his European cohorts are captured by a lost tribe of lizard people. For the last 100-pager in the series,
Joe Kubert produces one of his most exceptional works. From the flaming plane crash on the opening spread to the prehistoric sea serpent in the climax, the artist displays a high level of draftsmanship (less so on the cover). His layouts and pacing are equally thoughtful. Rounding out the book is a Korak story, sumptuously drawn by
Russ Manning. Occupying near half the allotted pages, this tale re-composes Tarzan newspaper strips of the 1960s. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Jerry Grandenetti, Ed Smalle and Carmine Infantino. This is 29 of 44
Tarzan issues by
Kubert.
