Detective Comics #539 - Don Newton art

Detective Comics v1 #539, 1984 - The death of the champ prompts a fellow boxer to find the killer. Rather than stopping him, the Batman agrees to join forces and make the rounds together. Don Newton's hand is evident throughout the story, but too many scenes lack sharpness and clarity. Bob Smith's inks are mostly to blame, loosely applied where more definition was needed. Newton's influence is most keenly felt on the interior page below. This story was later reprinted iBest of DC #62. Other artists in this issue include Shawn McManus and Sal Trapani. See today's posts or more Newton or Detective Comics issues. See also this blog's Newton checklist.
