Weird War Tales #55 - non-attributed Alex Nino art, Joe Kubert cover

Joe Kubert
Weird War Tales v1 #55, 1977Seeking to crush a peasant uprising, a Mexican general disguises one of his soldiers to impersonate their long-dead resistance hero. Harsh and heavily textured, Alex Nino's artwork matches the tale's brutality. Several panels are overworked and lack clarity. His layouts, however, rebel against the norm. Nino combines open and closed panels in varying sizes, resulting in an strong, memorable work. Joe Kubert's yeti-themed cover effectively merges both horror and war genres. Other artists in this issue include Romeo Tanghal and Bill Draut. This is number 10 of 13 Weird War Tales issues with Nino art and/or covers.
