Jack Kirby / Steve Ditko |
Tales to Astonish v1 #14, 1960 - Professor Carter's growth serum results in a gargantuan art, capable of razing the entire village and its inhabitants.
Jack Kirby employs two splash pages, dividing the story into two separate chapters. The European backdrop provides more interesting architecture and backgrounds. Kirby's cover, inked by
Steve Ditko, more or less captures the central plot. Ditko's other contribution chronicles an antiques dealer who travels back in time to steal future treasures. Expertly drawn, I especially like the artist's use of Father Time as a recurring metaphor and cautionary figure. This silver age tale was later reprinted in
Tower of Shadows #8. This is 14 of 57
