Tales to Astonish #2 - Steve Ditko cover, Matt Baker art

Steve Ditko
Tales to Astonish v1 #2, 1959 - After using an atomic drill, a scientist accidentally falls through the hole and lands in the center of the Earth. There he finds a prehistoric world frozen in time (naturally). Matt Baker's best page shows the character in free fall (see interior page below). That aside, his remaining pages are mediocre and Vince Colletta's inks don't help. Steve Ditko did few covers on this series, but comes through on this one. The spacecraft alone is terrific. Other artists in this golden age comic include Don Heck. This is 2 of 57 Tales to Astonish issues by Ditko and 1 of 1 Tales to Astonish issues by Baker.
