Star Spangled War Stories v1 #147, 1969 - Believing himself to be the knightly St. George, a British pilot challenges Enemy Ace to a duel in the sky. This tale of fantasy and delusion is brilliantly illustrated by Joe Kubert. His drawings display a veteran's degree of care and craftsmanship. Page layouts and panel sequences are impeccably designed. The high points of the artwork include a maniacal portrait of St. George (page 1) and the full page splash of an aerial battle (see interior page below). Kubert's cover nicely juxtaposes two warriors from two vastly different eras. Other artists in this silver age comic include Russ Heath and Sam Glanzman. This is 47 of 96
