2001: A Space Odyssey / Marvel Treasury Special - Jack Kirby art & cover

Jack Kirby
2001: A Space Odyssey / Marvel Treasury Special, 1976 - One of two Marvel Treasuries by Jack Kirby, this issue adapts the stellar Stanley Kubrick film from 1968. The artist's cover is fairly standard, but his interiors maintain a high level of skill and enthusiasm throughout. Seventy pages of bombastic drawings include eleven full page splashes and four double-page spreads. Most are painstakingly detailed (see interior page below). Kudos go to Frank Giacoia, whose inking faithfully captures the penciller's intent. The boldness of this work also benefits from the largest format in comics. Compare this effort with Kirby's other treasury-sized edition: Captain America’s Bicentennial Battles. This is number 2 of 2 Marvel Treasury Special issues with Kirby art and/or covers.
