Avengers #191 |
Avengers v1 #191, 1980 - A rock-like leviathan reveals itself as the Grey Gargoyle, proving more than a match for the Avengers.
John Byrne's second run on the series ends , but with no less enthusiasm than previous issues. As usual, his layouts are impeccably designed. Interestingly, the bulk of the story focuses on the Falcon’s solo clash with the super-powered villain. The artist handles these scenes especially well, varying perspectives and panel sizes for greater effect. Dan Green is the credited inker, yet many pages seem to be finished by Byrne himself. Regardless, the overall effort caps an impressive run. Cover by George Perez and Sal Buscema. This is 14 of 17
