House of Secrets #139 - Steve Ditko, Nestor Redondo art, Bernie Wrightson cover, mis-attributed art

Bernie Wrightson
House of Secrets v1 #139, 1976Bernie Wrightson's jack-o-lantern cover is a highlight of the issue, although none of his artwork resides inside. Nestor Redondo's tale is about the strange behaviors of a young woman (see interior page below). Though beautifully drawn, this darkly humorous tale may not have been the best fit for the artist's realistic style. Lastly, Steve Ditko tells of a circus owner and his suspicions that his stepdaughter is a witch. The renderings are harsh, almost mechanical. Mike Royer's inks do little to add much needed spontaneity. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Bill Draut. This is 1 of 2 House of Secrets issues by Ditko, 9 of 10 House of Secrets issues by Redondo and 11 of 11 House of Secrets issues by Wrightson. /// Redondo gallery / Wrightson gallery
