This Magazine Is Haunted v1 #16, 1954 - As a sea captain sinks to the ocean floor, manacled corpses float around him, seeking revenge. The scene is a little too macabre to be colorful, but Steve Ditko's cover art certainly benefits. Note how the artist uses the chain to anchor the composition. It divides the layout into two manageable halves while creating a path from the masthead to the central figures. Compared to other horror comics of the 1950s, this gruesome scene is relatively tame.
