Weird War Tales #72 - non-attributed Walt Simonson art, Joe Kubert cover

Joe Kubert
Weird War Tales v1 #72, 1979 - As America joins the Allies in World War I, a German merchant ship finds itself in the US occupied territory of Puerto Rico. Although a mere two pages, Walt Simonson does an admirable job with this true historical tale. His layouts are succinct and his drawings fit nicely with the time period and locale. Joe Kubert executes a dramatically-charged cover. This story was later reprinted in Sgt. Rock Special #4. Other artists in this bronze age comic include E. R. Cruz, Juan Ortiz and Alfredo Alcala. This is 28 of 52 Weird War Tales issues by Kubert and 2 of 2 Weird War Tales issues by Simonson. /// Simonson gallery
